Debatomap’ ® is made to allow citizens and local actors to easily suggest ideas or recommendations for an area and to encourage a debate among the community.
To place an idea on the map, comment, or vote, you first need to connect yourself, in the right-hand corner of the screen with your email (follow the directions), a Facebook account, or a Google+ account (Gmail).
Once you are connected, you can create an idea by dragging and dropping :
• Click and drag the themed icon of your choice from the left-hand menu and drag it onto the map to the desired location
• A window will pop up prompting you to enter a title, detail your ideas, and illustrate your suggestion with an image if you so desire.
Note: The Debatomap site is also optimized for mobile devices.
To place an idea on a phone or tablet :
• Connect yourself with the right-hand tab
• Open the menu by clicking on the button in the middle, to the left of the map
• Click successively on the icon of your choice then on the location of your choice on the map.
• You can also geolocate yourself or search for an address with the tabs located at the top of the map.
Important :
- Your mobile web browser must “accept cookies” for Debatomap to function.
- If you have any technical difficulties, we recommend using updated Chrome or Firefox.
Once you are connected with your account (look at the “add” section), you can vote for or against ideas posted on the map by other users.
Voting is open for aspects of projects presented by public actors as well as for bubbles added by other users.
In order to vote:
• Click on the idea bubble you wish to use to express yourself
• A detailed information window will appear
• Click on the thumbs-up icon (to vote for) or the thumbs-down icon (against)
• You can also click on the thumbs for available votes in the presentation by list of ideas (latest contributions, etc.)
A noter :
- The balance of votes comes up on each idea bubble (positive votes, minus negative votes). The balance is updated automatically after each vote and consequently changes the size of the bubble : the more positive votes an idea gets, the larger the bubble grows.
- Of course, you only get one vote per idea bubble.
- Don’t hesitate to explain you vote with a comment (see the next “comment” section).
Once you are connected with your account (see the “add” section), you can comment on the ideas placed on the map by you or by other users.
To comment :
• Click on the idea bubble you wish to comment on. An information window will appear.
• In the first tab that comes up, you can click on the “comment” button (bottom right of the window), and you can express yourself directly.
• You can also click on the “comments” tab in the top right of the window to read the thread of (potentially) previous comments, then click on the “comment” tab in the bottom right.
Note :
- You can see all the most recent comments on all the idea bubbles by clicking on the “Latest comments” tab at the top of the menu to the left of the map.
- In the detailed information windows for the bubbles, the “comment” function allows you to add an image, even if you are not the author of the idea. The user that created the idea has the ability to remove an image posted by another user that they do not find suitable.
The participatory map Debatomap® offers you multiple functionalities to allow you to navigate between the different ideas and debates on the map :
1. Read the elements of debates directly on the map

- The “comment” button allows you to express yourself (accessible under both tabs)
